St. Louis County Economic Council’s mission is to facilitate the development of long-term, diversified business and employment opportunities that will lead to increased wealth and well being for the citizens, businesses, and institutions of St. Louis County and the St. Louis region.
SLCEC Making a Difference
The dedicated professionals who work with the St. Louis County Economic Council have committed themselves to making a difference. From revitalizing areas once thought hopeless to expanding the infrastructure needed to support sustainable business growth. The crucial and invaluable work of our staff is evident throughout the vibrant communities and economic centers they help to create and nurture.
The following are key actions we facilitate
and upon which we focus our economic
development efforts:
Job Creation: High-quality, diverse employment opportunities are the life source of every community. A good job provides individuals and families the key for unlocking human potential, shared prosperity, and community vitality.
Business Growth:If jobs are the life source for the community, business growth is the spring from which jobs flow. That is why we work hard at nurturing start-up businesses and stimulating existing companies.
Industry Diversification:From local to multi-national, manufacturing to retail, aerospace and automobiles, life sciences and telecommunications, from skilled trades to professional services — an economy built on industry diversification creates the foundation for prosperity. We understand. Throughout the 1990s, SLCEC led the effort to address the impact of defense downsizing through strategic industry diversification. This effort continues today. As we anticipate and plan for further economic evolution we are well qualified and prepared to work with our industries and communities to facilitate and further diversify our economy.
Strategic Redevelopment: Rebuilding and reinvigorating communities is at the heart of our redevelopment efforts. We help to facilitate the redevelopment process parcel by parcel, block by block, and neighborhood by neighborhood. It's about revitalizing the communities in which we live and work.
SLCEC History
In 1984 , a handful of smaller agencies were brought together to form the St. Louis County Economic Council — the economic development arm of St. Louis County government. Part public entity, part private sector organization, the Economic Council was mandated to drive growth and prosperity in the most economically important county in the State of Missouri.
Over the past two decades, the Council has grown to provide a broader range of services than most agencies of its kind in the United States. With divisions that support small business success, attract and retain corporations, increase the region's international business participation, and revitalize municipalities across the County, today's Economic Council is a key facilitator of growth and success for businesses and communities in the County and St. Louis region.
