    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Under the direct supervision of the Patient Food Services Manager, the Patient Ambassador provides patient focused support services within a multidisciplinary scope, including food and nutrition services, linen, laundry services, housekeeping, and supply management. The Patient Ambassador operates TUG robots for the delivery and exchange of supplies and patient meals to the nursing unit. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

    Safety/Risk Management
    a. Follows procedures for entering patient and co-worker incident/injury reports.
    b. Follows confidentiality policy and procedure.
    c. Complies with infection control guidelines.
    d. Knows SDS Manual use and location.
    e. Complies with patient rights and regulations.

    Coordination of Services
    a. Provides professional, courteous interaction with patients/ significant others, peers and other hospital personnel.
    b. Informs Department Supervisor of patient food issues or concerns.
    c. Informs Manager of Patient Food Services Manager of operational issues.
    d. Prioritizes appropriately and utilizes good judgment in use of time to meet department service requirements.
    e. Participates in department Q.I. Plan (Test Trays, Tray Delivery Times, Patient Satisfaction, etc.)

    Complex Aspects
    a. Assists in orientation of new staff.
    b. Participates in department projects.
    c. Assists department specific supervisor in adjustment of par levels, as needed.

    d. Performs and documents daily rounding on patients

    e. Addresses patient complaints, provides follow up and reports issues or concerns to department specific supervisor and Patient Food Services Manager, as necessary.

    Primary Aspects
    a. Operates TUG robot to accept, request, and send supplies.

    b. Delivers patient meal trays, snacks, and supplements to patients.

    c. Demonstrates accurate knowledge of therapeutic diet modification.

    d. Inventories, records, and orders supplies.

    e. Places supplies in correct location.

    d. Labels and Dates food supplies and supplements and follows FIFO (first in, first out, guidelines for storage).
    d. Empties nursing unit trash, as needed.

    e. Performs cleaning duties per department standards.

    Communication Management
    a. Demonstrates good customer and guest relation skills.
    b. Demonstrates active listening skills.
    c. Demonstrates proper telephone management techniques.

    d. Participates in nursing and ancillary department huddles.

    a. Demonstrates ability to operate TUG robot to send, request, and accept deliveries.

    b. Demonstrates knowledge and use of I-Pad

    b. Demonstrates knowledge of Qualtrics

    c. Demonstrates use of Cisco Phones

    d. Demonstrates use of CBORD Tray Monitor, and CBORD Nutrition Services Suite.

    e. Facilitates maintenance of equipment and TUG robot.

    f. Utilizes supply chain software to fill, order, stock, distribute, and receive supplies.

    g. Ensures TUG Robots are charged daily.

    Experience: Food Service, EVS, Central Supplies, Linens and/or Customer Service oriented experience.

    Other Skills & Knowledge:

    -Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

    -Interest in learning new skills and growth of your role in the department.

    -Certified Food Handler or Serve Safe Certification obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained.


    Education: As of October 1, 2015 - High school diploma or equivalent is highly preferred.

    Other skills & knowledge: Additional languages preferred.
